Crossing Continents: Home to Mayo Presents ‘A Transatlantic Journey Home’—A Spectacular Celebration of Irish Culture and Talent!
Home to Mayo proudly presents a celebration of Irish culture, music and entertainment at centre stage in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Friday, 24thMay. Featuring local, national and international musicians, singers and dancers, amongst the line-up is Musical Director Stephen Doherty and his band, renowned Irish Musician, Comedian and social media ‘Follow me I’m delicious’artist, Garron Noone alongside Ballinrobe’s Musical Society’s theatrical duo, Niall Conway and Eve Garavan.
Travelling all the way from New York City, Castlebar native Dawn Doherty is bringing her Academy of Irish Music to perform alongside local artists Next Generation Musical ensemble, a young group performing an original piece comprising of Uileann Pipes and Harps, and Mayo’s Male Voice Choir.
Wild Atlantic Way Dance Troupe will also perform a highly anticipated display.
Named Home to Mayo ‘A Transatlantic Journey Home’, the show will see artists cross the Atlantic Ocean come together to join their Mayo and Irish contemporaries on the famed stage in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar.
To mark this momentous gathering of Irish talent, Home to Mayo are delighted to honour three of Ireland’s renowned entertainers. Mayo man, Alan Clarke who has emerged as one of Ireland’s most celebrated Influencers winning 2023 Goss.ie Awards Newcomer of the Year and Best Podcast 2024 and is delighted to receive the award from his home county.
Legendary Irish folk singer, songwriter and entertainer, Johnny McEvoy whose career spans over 60 years with numerous sell out concerts around the globe and number 1 hits including the song ‘Long long before your time’ which he wrote in Kennedy’s Bar in Doocastle, Co Mayo.
Celebrating 50 years in show business Westport native, Frank McCaffrey will also be honoured with an award. Having started his career while still in school, he joined Margo and the Country Folk in 1970 and left to set up his own band ‘Band of Gold’ and became a solo artist and signed to Ritz Records. Frank has been one of the most consistent and requested performers on the Irish and International concert scenes with a string of hit singles and albums over the years. Frank and his family continue to reside in County Mayo.
The event, which is supported by Mayo.ie, Fáilte Ireland, Creative Ireland, Global Irish and Home to Mayo promises to be the must see Mayo concert of the year. Proudly supporting Charity Partner, Cancer Fund for Children’ as they provide vital support and connection for children and their families impacted by cancer. The Charity are currently in the process of building a respite centre based in Cong Co Mayo, a first for the Republic of Ireland.
