Expect A Brilliant Night Of Traditional Music, Song And Dance
With Special Guest John Spillane.
Piper’s Cross Christmas Special
Following a wonderful year playing at festivals, céilís and concerts around the country, The Piper’s Cross return to the TF Royal Theatre for a Christmas Special. This talented young band burst onto the Folk music scene following their historic achievement in 2023, winning the All-Ireland senior céilí band title, becoming the first band from Mayo to ever receive the title since the competition started in 1951. They went on to release their debut album ‘The Queen of Mayo’, earlier this year, which received positive acclaim. This lively band always bring a vibrant energy to the stage through their music, which strongly reflects the great set dancing tradition of Mayo.
The band are looking forward to taking to the stage in December, for what promises to be a brilliant night of traditional music, song and dance. Joining them on the night is Cork native and musical maestro, John Spillane.
John is a musician, songwriter, performer, recording artist, storyteller, poet and dreamer. Rooted in people, place and story, his music transports the listener, and his live performances captivate audiences around the world. His vocal style has a unique almost sean-nós like quality and his performances shimmer with the magic realism that permeates many of his songs as he effortlessly flits between beautiful poetry tinged with melancholy to roguish, irreverent humour. A two-time Meteor Award winner for Best Folk/Trad act, John is one of the most accomplished songwriters in Ireland. With an extensive catalogue beginning with the 1997 album ‘The Wells of the World’, and more recently with his release of ‘Fíoruisce’, his songs have also been covered by the likes of Christy Moore.
Accompanying them on the night, will be support from local award-winning music groups, from right across Mayo.
This exciting event is not to be missed!
