The Saw Doctors have announced a hugely anticipated return to Mayo, playing their first show in the county in over 15 years at the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Saturday 5th September.

Tickets priced from €46.20 to €51.20 inclusive go on sale at 10am on Friday, August 14th via Ticketmaster.

The announcement comes at a particularly special time for Mayo fans. When Mayo claimed the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship on July 26th, 60,000 supporters celebrated in Croke Park with a rousing rendition of The Saw Doctors’ much-loved anthem, ‘The Green and Red of Mayo’.

In the days following Mayo’s historic first All-Ireland triumph in 75 years, the song was heard across Irish radio and television and enjoyed a remarkable resurgence, reaching No. 1 on the Irish Spotify charts and No. 1 on iTunes.

Led by songwriting duo Davy Carton on lead vocals and Leo Moran on electric guitar, The Saw Doctors have also recently welcomed founding member Pearse Doherty back to the line-up on bass guitar, vocals, penny whistle and wooden flute.

The eight-piece band also features former Waterboys member Anthony Thistlethwaite on saxophone alongside longtime members Rickie O’Neill on drums, Kieran Duddy on keyboards and accordion, Tommy Carton on backing vocals and Noelie McDonnell on guitar and backing vocals.

Discovered by Mike Scott of The Waterboys in Galway’s Quay’s Bar in the late 1980s, The Saw Doctors quickly established themselves as one of Ireland’s most distinctive and best-loved live bands. Their rise included extensive touring throughout Ireland and the UK and a six-week run with The Waterboys on the Fisherman’s Blues tour in 1989.

Their second single, ‘I Useta Lover’, became a surprise No. 1 hit in Ireland in September 1990, remaining at the top of the charts for an incredible nine weeks. It marked the beginning of a catalogue of songs that would become deeply woven into Irish musical culture.

Renowned for their infectious live performances, humour, storytelling and unmistakable connection with audiences, The Saw Doctors’ long-awaited return to Mayo promises to be a very special night.
